About the Chilled Plus Program

The Emotional Health Clinic at Macquarie University is commencing a new program for adolescents with anxiety and depression that is conducted online. In this individual treatment program, participants learn creative ways to manage emotions and accomplish immediate goals. This cognitive behavioural treatment incorporates the latest research and techniques in working with motivation, acceptance and negative emotions. Therapists in the program have expertise in working with adolescents. The treatment involves 8 online modules and each module is accompanied by a phone call with a therapist. Phone calls can be booked to suit your schedule, and you can complete modules at your own pace.

Part of the program is that parents also support their children. The extend of parent support will depend on the age and independence of the young person completing the program. Parents will be provided with a parent companion, and will also have phone contact with the therapist throughout the program. The parent companion teaches parents about the core anxiety and depression management skills, and covers helpful parenting strategies when dealing with negative emotions.

The Chilled Plus program is an integrated skills training course that is designed to help adolescents learn to mange their feelings so that they no longer interfer with their everyday activities. It also involves helping parents to develop skills that can be used to support the adolescent over the course of the program and beyond.

There is no fee for the program however as this is a research study, participants are expected to participate in a number of assessments in order for us to evaluate the effectiveness of the treatment. All answers provided are confidential, and no individual person will be identified in the analysis of results.
